Indonesia menghasilkan sekitar 175.000 ton sampah per hari, yang sebagian besar berasal dari wilayah perkotaan. Teknologi PLTSa memanfaatkan volume ini dengan mengubah sampah menjadi energi, yang juga membantu mengurangi ketergantungan pada bahan bakar fosil dan mengurangi limbah yang masuk ke Tempat Pembuangan Akhir (TPA).
